Blogging | Initial Thoughts

While it may seem redundant to make my first blog post about blogging... here I am. First things first, I love blogs. I spend some of my spare time reading blogs about fashion, beauty, and cooking. One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday morning, hot coffee in hand, son napping in his crib, is to catch up on my favorite blogs. What new lipstick do I need, what is the "color" this summer, what must I make for dinner? 

Ironically, none of the blogs that I read have anything to do with education. This thought really didn't occur to me until just now, and after a few minutes of reflection, I came up with a few reasons why I think that might be.

1. I am reading these blogs as a hobby. A time to take a break from what I do all day long and have some mindless enjoyment. It is my time to relax and disconnect, not find out that there is one more "really cool thing" I must be doing with my students. (I do that the other 99% of the time, this is the 1% for personal stuff.)
2. For whatever reason, in all of my searching, I haven't come across any that interested me.
3. And what I think may be the most telling... have I not come across any that interest me because there aren't many out there?

Now, I know there educational blogs out there, a lot I am sure, but my theory is that after being at school/work all day, most people want to disconnect from their day. Likewise, if it was an especially rough day, blogging may not be the best way to vent. Educators, at least most I know, rarely leave work inside of the classroom or school building. The teachers I know are dedicated to their craft. They spend more time with their students than with their own families, and that includes time at work and time spent at home grading or planning. I just don't know that at the end of the day, there are that many educators out there who can blog on top of it all. 
  
All of that being said, I am open to anything that can make me a better teacher, student, and human being. I look forward to this journey and how blogging (about something other than blush color) can make an impact on my daily life.
